Paying homage to U. R. Ananthamurthy

Team NFPETV is joining you in paying homage to Udupi Rajagopalacharya Ananthamurthy or U. R. Ananthamurthy, a contemporary writer and critic in the Kannada literature, considered to be one of the pioneers of the Navya movement, who passed away the other day.

He is the sixth person among eight recipients of the prestigious Jnanpith Award (in 1994) from the Kannada language.   In 1998, he received the Padma Bhushan - the third highest civilian award in the Republic of India.   He was the Vice-Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi University in Kerala from 1987 to 1991.   He was one of the finalists of the Man Booker International Prize for the year 2013.   He is the man behind the proposal for renaming the ten cities in Karnataka including 'Banglore' to 'Bengaluru.'   He died of renal failure.
